In 1980, Kitty Black Perkins made history as the lead designer behind the first-ever Black Barbie. More than just a doll, Black Barbie was a statement, she was stylish, confident, and, most importantly, authentically represented Black beauty. With her short, natural curls and a stunning red dress, she broke barriers and gave children a doll that truly reflected them.
Fast forward to today, and Mattel Creations recently released a new Black Barbie in honor of this legacy, designed once again with Perkins' influence. This collector's edition doll celebrates both past and present, featuring modern elegance while paying homage to the original. It sold out almost instantly, proving that Kitty Perkins' impact on Barbie, and the world of fashion dolls, remains as powerful as ever.
Her work continues to inspire, reminding us that representation matters, and that a single doll can make a world of difference.

One of my absolute favorites in my collection! The Simone face mold suits her to a T!

She’s Glamorous. I really like that they just used plain red gown, which makes her beauty stood out. ✨💝
